DENTAL SEALANTS

Dental sealants are a preventive procedure designed to protect teeth from decay. They are most commonly applied to the permanent molars of children and adolescents that have deep grooves. During this procedure, a special protective material called sealant is applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth, which seals the grooves that are difficult to clean and prevents bacteria and food debris from accumulating. We often hear myths about sealants, but they are the only preventive measure that can effectively protect permanent molars from caries. For sealants to do their job, it is important that they are applied correctly, strictly following the protocol, only after the tooth has erupted.
